Planning a trip to Costa Rica can be super complicated – the country is very spread out, there is so much to see and do, and it’s hard to know where to settle as your home base. If you are looking for a family friendly All-Inclusive Resort in Guanacaste Costa Rica, then keep reading to learn more about my favorite – Planet Hollywood Beach Resort.
Planet Hollywood: The best Family Friendly All-Inclusive Resort in Guanacaste, Costa Rica
Where is Planet Hollywood Beach Resort and Where are the Best All Inclusive Resorts in Costa Rica?
Planet Hollywood Beach Resort is located on Papagayou Bay on the country’s North Pacific Coast, about 25 minute ride from Liberia airport.
This is a great location for families and couples who don’t want a long ride upon arrival in Costa Rica and who want a home base to explore other parts of the Guanacaste region. For this reason, plus access to the best beaches , most all-inclusive Costa Rica resorts are in the Guanacaste or North west region of the country. Guanacaste is definitely one of the best beach towns in Costa Rica.
Planet Hollywood Beach Resort has a tour desk on site, or as a full-service travel agent I have access to several tour operators in the area to set you up with an activity you might be interested in!
Worth noting as well – a popular way to “do” Costa Rica would be to fly to Liberia, head to Arenal upon arrival (about a 2-3 hour ride), spend a few days near the volcano exploring nature and being active, and then heading down to a resort in Guanacaste for some beach time!
As a Costa Rica Travel Specialist, I can help you plan your next Costa Rica adventure – we can make the trip as active or relaxing as you wish.
Choosing an all-inclusive resort can be tough. Some are big, some are small, some are on the beach, some just near it. Some resorts have better food, more drink options, and more entertainment than others. Of course, there is your budget to consider as well!
For those reasons, it’s always best to consult with a travel professional to help find the perfect resort for you next vacation. And the best part? My services are free!
That’s right, you get full on, personalized, concierge vacation planning service, and it does not cost you a cent more! In fact, a package vacation with one of my preferred suppliers can often save you money on your trip!
Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica Review
You will arrive at Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica greeted by a DJ spinning the tunes! The lobby so fun with circus performers (masked for us because of I visited in December 2020) and you will know you’ve landed in a fun place, ready to embrace the rock and roll lifestyle!
Rooms at Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica are built into a hill overlooking the beautiful Papagayo Bay. The lobby is at the top of the hill and the pool, beach, spa, and kids club is at the bottom.
Restaurants are located both in the lobby building (Buffet called So Cal Emporium, East Sushi and Teppanyaki, Sunset Strip Steakhouse) and down by the pool (Guy’s! Burger Joint, Gusto Italian Trattoria, and Blue Star Tex Mex) – ohh and don’t worry there are bars in both locations.
From top to bottom there are various buildings with hotel rooms. Frequent golf cart shuttle service links the lobby to the pool and everything in between. It’s not a far walk, but it’s along a very steep hill. There are stairs if you want to walk, but who’s in a rush – you are on vacation!
Rooms at Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica
There are several room categories at Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica. I recommend booking into the STAR class – with preferred room locations and upgraded amenities like a dedicated pool and bar, and the STAR class lounge with private check in and where you can make reservations for dinner. STAR class guests have colored wristbands to differentiate.
Rooms start with the Junior Suite, which are pretty standard. I do love the bathrooms with modern rain showers and the rock and roll décor throughout.
If you are looking for a one-bedroom suite, book into the Director’s Suite. These rooms have a separate living area and a beautiful soaking tub.
Lastly, for those who want to travel like a rock star – the DROOL worthy Producer’s Suite! Two bedrooms, two and a half baths, a full kitchen, living room with pool table, dining room, bar, outdoor hot tub on one balcony, romantic soaking tub on another balcony. This room is perfect for a big family, or a group of friends that want to vacation in style.
You can even book into the junior suite next door to create a three bedroom pad.
Plus, also the director suite and producer suite come with butler service.
Restaurants at Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica
If you like to eat, the Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica is for you! So many dining options and the food is great.
Options include a buffet (which is more like food stations or a food hall), Hibachi (reservations required), Italian, Steakhouse (with a private room you can reserve for a fee), Asian, Tex-Mex, and a Guy’s Burger Joint (yes, Guy Fieri from The Food Channel!) There is also a coffee/gelato shop that is all included.
If room service is your thing (it’s mine for sure!) you can add this for just $5/day.
Spa and Fitness at Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica
I have to be honest, I rarely go to the spa on vacation. I actually did a beach massage at the Royalton Antigua, but that’s rare for me! It’s just not how I want to spend my time. I do love a spa at home as a little treat. But the PH SPA at Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica was incredible.
With your treatment you can use the thermal room – hot tub, sauna, steam room and hydrotherapy. There were all these really cool showers (bucket dump, scented) which I have never seen.
STAR class guests get complimentary hydro-therapy each day, so another reason to upgrade.
When you book your vacation with me, I can help you pre-book your spa services. Another perk of my complimentary, concierge vacation planning services!
Now I do love a hotel gym – I don’t know why, but I usually make a point to go for a workout when on vacation. At Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica, the gym is staffed by personal trainers.
Lastly, in this area you will find the bridal suite. Everything she needs to get ready for her big day.
Pools at Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica
There are two pools at the Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica, one small one for STAR class guests and one very large pool for all guests. There is also a splash pad your kids would love and hot tubs for the grown-ups. With a swim-up bar and all included drinks, what more could you need?
If you want to indulge, rent a pool side cabana! Complete with your own plunge pool. When you book your vacation with me, I can help you add on all these amazing perks.
Does Planet Hollywood Costa Rica have a beach?
Yes! Planet Hollywood Costa Rica is located on Papagayo Bay, and there is definitely a beach. On our recent day at Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica we got to see the beach at low tide. Now if you want powdery white sand, Costa Rica is not your spot (I’d consider the Bahamas or Turks & Caicos instead). On the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, you will find black, volcanic sand. It’s honestly softer than it looks.
At Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica, the beach is on Papagayo Bay, so very calm (and warm). Perfect for SUP, kayaking or jet skiing. The hotel provides chairs, but remember all beaches in Costa Rica are public.

Wow, what a great idea! We come to Costa Rica all the time and didn’t know about this. We love coming to Tamarindo (here now!) and this would be a perfect place to stop either upon arrival into CR or on the way out for a few days of REAL vacation. So glad you shared about this!
very true! Jealous you are in Cost Rica I want to go back!
Do they have gulag American outlets for chargers and hair tools? I leave tomorrow!
american outlets there!
We just got back from The Westin all-inclusive, near Tamarindo. Kids club was great, dinners were fantastic, beach and pool were gorgeous, rooms were great, everything was top notch! The food around the pool was okay, but the kids didn’t care.
They treated us like royals. Everyone loved it! We highly recommend.
so good to know! Yes I think the Westin is a more authentic CR experience than PH, but it is a bit more expensive. Nice to have options!
