How to Plan a Destination Wedding with Harmony Skillman

How does planning a destination wedding with me work? First, I go over what you and your finance are looking for in a destination and resort. Are you have a religious ceremony? Legal ceremony? or just civil? Are you looking for a beach wedding or a chapel/gazebo/rooftop, etc.

How many guests are you anticipating and are you inviting children?

Then I ask some of the same questions I would ask you if you were planning a honeymoon or vacation. Do you like small or large resorts? Beach/pool? Are you looking for golf, tennis, spa, excursions, paddleball or anything else to help narrow down all the options.

Then I ask for YOUR budget with your travel and wedding. Budget is always tricky, but I say to my couples, pick the resort YOU are most interested in, and if your guests are interested they will come!

Then I send a proposal with both what a stay at the resort would cost for your guests, and the wedding planning info.

Once you decide on a resort, I put you in touch with the resort wedding planning team. From there, they take over planning for your big day, while I get to work on securing a room block (if you need 10 rooms or more) for your group. If you are looking for 9 rooms or less, we link the group with a code and sometimes there are small discounts on a group code.

The vendor I use for room blocks is great, we a dedicated group coordinator, the risk to holding rooms is usually low (as long as you release unused rooms by a certain date) and their rates are always FANTASTIC.

Once you decide on how many rooms to hold (and in which category) contracts are sent out and signed, and a small deposit is made by the bride/groom – that deposit does goes go towards your wedding room.

Then I set up a google form, with an easy link you can send to your guests. That puts them right in touch with me, with all the info they need to book. I will do a google spreadsheet to keep track of who has booked and share that with the wedding couple.

Closer to the wedding, I make sure everything is confirmed with the transfers and hotel, and work to get the wedding couple any applicable hotel freebies based on the size of the group.

Since I am a full service travel agent, and book these destinations beyond weddings, I assist with any excursions your guests want to do and helpful info for them to maximize their time in the destination. After all, we want then to enjoy their vacation as well as your special day!
