The winter blah’s have hit full force here, as I’m sure is true for many of you. With plummeting temperatures, shorter days, and even school cancellations, entertaining my kids this time of year is always a challenge. That’s why I was so excited to have baby girl try out a new creative art immersion kit from locally based, Pint Size Painters!

What is Pint Size Painters?

Pint-Size Painters is a Long Island based company looking to spread the love of art, and art history to little ones everywhere! Their mission is to spread the happiness that comes from creating and learning.

Pint Size Painters is living their mission in two ways. First by having your little one use their art kit, they will be learning about a famous artist (this kit was Vincent van Gogh themed) and will have the tools and inspiration they need to create their own masterpieces. Second, they will be donating part of their proceeds back to keep art funded in our schools! How amazing is that?

What is included in a Pint Size Painters Kit?

Our kit was themed around the art and life of Vincent van Gogh – who my seven year old daughter has studied in school. The kit is meant to provide an “immersive art experience.” In our kit, we received the following:

A set of acrylic paint (my daughter was beyond excited to be working with real paint!)
Two high-quality paint brushes
A paint palette
Two canvases
A tarp to put down on our table (mom and dad really appreciated this)
A hat, just like Vincent used to wear
A booklet giving info on Vincent van Gogh, a picture of him, and his famous sunflowers painting. I appreciated that baby girl (second grade) could read this on her own. It was written with young readers in mind!

Baby Girl spent about an hour one Saturday painting away. Once I helped her put the paint in the palette, she could work on her own. Taking inspiration from van Gogh, she painted one picture to be a vase of flowers, mimicking the sunflowers picture. The second canvas she made a plant with a Venus fly trap – no idea where she thinks up these things, but super creative none-the-less.

This kit was cute, easy to set up, and I like that it was an open-ended activity. Kids can really do anything with this kit, there are no wrong ways to do it, and they can push themselves to see where their imagination takes them! The paint set was enough paint for two canvases and we still have a fair amount left over.

Baby girl very much enjoyed this art set, and I’m sure she will be asking when can we get another one!

Pint Size Painters Review

My daughter subscribes to craft kids, and loves to draw and paint. She loved this activity again, using real, quality paints to not just follow step-by-step instructions, but to see where her creative mind could take her.

This kit would make the PERFECT holiday or birthday gift for kids, I’d say 6 and up. I hate giving messy gifts at birthday parties, but the tarp included will keep your work area clean, so no worries about that.

I am sure we will be buying subsequent kits and we cannot wait to see which artists will be featured next! I definitely recommend this kit for your budding artist. Or yourself. I actually asked baby girl if I could paint one of the canvases, but she of course said no.
