I love getting ready for a new adventure- researching a new destination, the excitement before heading out on vacation. What I don’t love to do before a trip – packing. I mean it’s a necessity of course! I find it takes longer than I want it to and I just want it to be done. But I have found a few shortcuts over the years that have made the process more efficient and more foolproof. I am so excited to share my best vacation packing tips!
Most of the time, I write about family friendly getaways, and fun things to do with kids. Yes, I visited Vegas with just hubby, and Minneapolis and Baltimore with some girlfriends, but little man and baby girl do prove to be my best travel companions. Traveling with a 5 and 7 year old can be fun but busy and hectic. However, on our recent two-week trip to SW Florida, I realized there are a lot of unique things to do in Naples, Florida for the grown ups! I hate the winter. I hate the cold, and the snow, and temperatures that prevent outdoor activity. I love the warm, and the sun, and to be outside as much as possible. So to combat the winter blues, I’ve realized that I need to head south several times each winter.

I’ve been fortunate enough to visit Orlando twice in the last two months. Both trips were awesome and I love that we got to experience some of the lesser known attractions. Yes, most people head to Orlando for Disney or Universal but there are lots of things to do in Orlando besides Walt Disney World!

Ever since my first sleepover when I was in elementary school, I’ve been working on my packing skills. Over the years, I was lucky enough to travel often to different destinations and for different reasons: sleepovers at friend’s house in another city, going to music festivals with friends, holidays with my boyfriend, and surprise trips to the beach in the middle of the day. Needless to say, I’ve perfected my packing technique and today I can pack everything I need in a blink of an eye. Still, it doesn’t matter where I’m headed, there are some things I can’t live (and leave) without.
We are so lucky to be able to visit Southwest Florida each winter. The weather is almost always perfect, and there is so much for the kids to do! Over the last seven years, we have stayed in both South Fort Meyers and North Naples so we have sampled a variety of activities in these areas. If you have been following along, you know that our family was so fortunate to spend three weeks in Hawaii last summer. We visited Maui and The Big Island with our two kids, age 4 and 7. Needless to say, we had an awesome time. Most of my planning was done by searching Pinterest for family friendly blog posts offering advice of “must-dos” on the islands. I compiled a list of things that sounded interesting (and brought a 2016 Fodor’s Hawaii with us) and made our way through the many awesome things to in Maui. I’m staring out the window at a full on blizzard and reminiscing about our trip to Orlando a mere two weeks ago! If you checked out my Chef Mickey review, you know that baby girl and I were in Orlando to visit family. A full-on Disney day wasn’t in the cards for us (plus I would have felt bad going to Disney without little man). But we did do a day to trip to Legoland Florida– and it was awesome! I highly recommend adding a day at Legoland to your Central Florida itinerary! Here is my Legoland Florida Review:
Last weekend, baby girl and I took a much-needed break to some warm weather. We spent five days in Orlando, Florida with my cousin and her three kids! Now when people think Orlando, naturally, they think of Disney World. And believe me, Disney World is amazing! And tiring! And expensive! So on this trip we took a mellower jaunt to the Greatest Place on Earth – a character meal at Chef Mickey Brunch! If you are short on time, or funds, checking out a character meal is a great way to experience the park in a more low key way. I highly recommend this, so I am so excited to share my Chef Mickey Review!

One of my favorite places to visit is Atlantic City. I love the casinos, the beach, boardwalk, and the cheesy Jersey Shore vibe. I always have fun there. My earliest memory of visiting AC was after my cousins wedding… in 1992! Last October, I ran the 2016 AmeriHealth Atlantic City Half Marathon with that same cousin! My husband even proposed to me in a limo on a surprise getaway to the Borgata!
We have visited AC almost every year during the week between Christmas and New Year’s. In 2011 we took our infant daughter and in 2012, 13 & 15 headed down without kids. This year, I wanted to spend time all together so the four of us headed down for 48 Hours In… Atlantic City.
